Which Digital Video (DV) camcorders are supported by 1394-to-Go PC card?

Please refer to our DV Camcorder Compatibility Test for a list of qualified camcorders. If you have a model which is not listed on our qualified list, please contact us with the information of the camcorder.

Will my Analog camcorder work with the 1394-to-Go PC card?

The answer would be NO. The reason is that the analog camcorder only outputs analog signal through either Compsosite or S-Video. With the DV camcorder, it outputs the digital signal through a different interface called IEEE 1394 (also known as Firewire).

What is the resolution of DV video?

The current resolution of DV video is 720 x 480 for NTSC.

What are the differences between 1394-to-Go and Capture-to-Go?

The primary difference is that the 1394-to-Go (IEEE 1394 CardBus PC Card) takes in DIGITAL video/audio signal while Capture-to-Go takes in ANALOG video/audio signal.

How much disk space is required per minute of DV clip?

The DV format uses a fixed rate of 3.5 MB/sec (NTSC or PAL). At this rate, a gigabyte of data can be stored a little bit over 4.5 minutes. 12.5GB is required to store an hour of video.

How much video can be recorded onto a CD?

All CDs have a capacity of 650MB of data. The DV format at full resolution is 3.5 MB/sec (NTSC or PAL), so the capacity of a CD is approx. 3 minutes of full resolution/quality DV format video.

Windows'98 does recognize the 1394-to-Go but NOT the Digital (DV) Camcorder?

Microsoft Windows 98 (first Release) does support 1394 Device but not Digital (DV) Camcorder Device. In order to use the DV camcorder, you would need to have Windows 98-SE (Second Edition).

My DV camcorder is not being recognized even though I have Windows 98-SE?

Some DV camcorders may be unable to connect to IEEE 1394 High Performance Serial Bus under Windows 98-SE (Second Edition). Please visit Microsoft's site for an updated patch [ 1394 Host Controller Driver Does Not Retry Busy Devices Properly ].

I am experiencing some AUDIO dropout or a loss of audio rendering.

Microsoft Digital Video Splitter may pass faulty audio samples from some IEEE 1394 (High Performance Serial Bus, or "FireWire") devices instead of duplicating the last good audio sample. As a result, Microsoft DirectShow clients in general, and DVD playback programs in specific, may experience audio dropout or a loss of audio rendering. Please visit Microsoft's site for an updated patch [ Microsoft Digital Video May Lose IEEE 1394 Device Audio ].
