Can I play DVD titles using my CD-ROM drive?

Yes, the DVD-to-Go card can decode and playback MPEG-1, VideoCD and MPEG-2 clips directly from either the hard disk or CD-ROM Drive.

What are the relative advantages of using the DVD-to-Go card over using a CPU-based MPEG player, other than increased multi-tasking abilities. I.E. How would this card compare to a Pentium 266 MHz running under Win95 or Win98?
The advantage of using the DVD-to-Go card is to utilize less system performance while other applications running at the same time. An ability of playing back your DVD title in full-screen and full-motion (30 frames per second).

What version of DVD-to-Go driver should I be using with my system?

If you are running Windows 95...then download the MCI-based driver.

If you are running Windows 98 and ...

    1. you have an ATI-Mobility VGA chipset then download the WDM-based driver.
    2. the MCI-based driver is not working then download the WDM-based driver. You should always try the MCI-based driver first.
    3. you intend to use applications that make use of MCI (the application would list MCI as a requirement in its manual or box) then use the MCI-based driver.

If you are running Windows 2000...then download the WDM-based driver.

If you are running Windows NT4...then contact our sales team.

I live in Europe, how do I set the Region Code to 2?
It is important that you CAN ONLY play the DVD titles from that region due to the compliance with the specification of DVD. Since majority of the DVD drives are RPC-II (ie, phase II), the region information is stored within the DVD drive. The only way to restore the count is to contact your DVD drive or notebook manufacturer.

Does the DVD-to-Go card come with a DVD player or I can use it with my notebook's CD-ROM player? What type of drive is recommended?
The DVD-to-Go card DOES NOT come with a DVD drive and you certainly can use the card with your notebook's CD-ROM drive. If you are planning to use the card to view DVD disc / title, you would need to have either an internal or external DVD drive in order for the disc to be read.

How do I know if my notebook is compatible with your DVD-to-Go card?
It is important to know if your notebook is Zoomed Video (ZV) enabled in order to use our product. This can be done by either checking the notebook's User Manual or contacting its manufacturer. You can verify your notebook by checking our Systems Compatibility ZV notebooks list especially the matrix at the top of the list.

Error Messages

"Macrovision copy protection distibution has failed...Playback will stop"
This error is caused by miscommunication between the video drivers and the Macrovision API that is built in the DVD-ROM. The MARGI card uses the video drivers to play the DVD movie, and if the video drivers cannot communicate with the Macrovision API to enable it, the error above is reported by the system, and consequently displayed by the MARGI software. This issues cannot be resolved by MARGI, as it is caused by a combination of the video drivers, and the system hardware. You will need to contact the notebook manufacturer for a resolution of this problem.

"The current VGA resolution is not allowing the DVD video to initialize and play. Change the current resolution and try again."
This error results when the Windows OS on loading the DVD-to-Go card queries the display adapter's drivers to check if there is enough graphics RAM and if 16bit color depth is available and doesn't get the required information. It then passes the error - "The current VGA resolution is not allowing the DVD video to initialize and play. Change the current resolution and try again." - which the MARGI software displays.Since this is a OS-graphics card interaction issue, we are unable to resolve it or provide support it. You may try to obtain newer video drivers (that are Zoom Video enabled) and try again.

"Unable to create VPM provider [xxxxVPM.DLL], Invalid VPM version. Unable to load MARGIVPM.DLL [-27] or MARGIVPM.105 [-2]"
The version of Video driver does not fully support the Zoomed Video port. The updated version of the VGA driver can be obtained by contacting your notebook manufacturer or the video controller manufacturer. The best way to do this is to go to their Web sites and download their drivers.

"Unable to load C:\Margi\Dvdtogo\Margivpm.dll Error [-3]."
1- From the Control Panel, go into Display.
2- Select Settings.
3- Click on the Advanced button.
4- Select Performance.
5- Change Hardware acceleration from NONE to FULL.
6-If this does not fix the problem, then MARGI is not able to load the video drivers. This may be due to a lack of system resources, drivers that do not fully support Zoomed Video port. Please free up system resources and update your graphics drivers.

"Unable to create VPM stream VPM Error [-10], Insufficient frame buffer memory. Try reducing the display pixel depth or the display resolution"
This is due to the limitation on the memory buffer available on your notebook for the video to playback. The best thing to do is to free up some memory buffer by reducing the window desktop setting (resolution and color mode).

"Unable to load C:\MARGI\DVDTOGO\MARGIVPM.DLL [Error= -261]"
The VPM (Video Port Manager) driver is not loaded or an OLDER version which is not compatible with our current drivers. Please contact the notebook manufacturer or the display adapter's web site for the latest driver. For notebooks with the following display adapter:

1) Chips & Technologies: Can be obtained by logging into www.chips.com.

2) Neomagic: Need to contact the notebook manufacturer.
3) Trident: There should be two drivers (display and VPM/AVI) in either the CD-ROM or from the notebook manufacturer.
4) S3: Need to contact the notebook manufacturer.

"Unable to load hardware driver. MMSYSTEM262 There is a problem with your media device. Make sure it is working properly or contact the device manufacturer."
Solution: The error message indicates the MARGI DVD-to-Go Card (hardware device) is not configured correctly. It is recommended to REMOVE the MARGI-Systems_DVD-decoder device in either "(?) Other devices" or "Sound, video and game Controllers".
